For over 40 years, The Nature Conservancy has been present in West Virginia, protecting our first lands in Cranesville Swamp in 1964. Today, the West Virginia Chapter is proud to announce that through the ongoing support of our membership and conservation partners we have protected over 100,000 acres in West Virginia.

For their first date, Robert and Carolyn Wells woke up at 4:30 a.m. to go catfishing.

It was the beginning of a shared love of nature and the outdoors that would span the rest of their lives together - and culminate in a $9 million bequest to The Nature Conservancy.
